History & Identity · Bologna Business School

Bologna Business School's history

Bologna Business School was founded in 2000 as Alma Graduate School, a consortium between the University of Bologna, the Fondazione Carisbo and the Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, with the goal of creating a management school capable of leveraging the millennium-long academic prestige of the Bologna university, the oldest in the Western world, founded in 1088. From its earliest years the school pursued a strongly international identity, promoting conferences, summer schools, short courses and Master's programs aimed at a global audience.

In 2011 the school forged an important strategic alliance with the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University, creating the EMBA Consortium for Global Business Innovation, a network that has since expanded to include seven international business schools across Italy, the United States, Brazil, Russia, China, Turkey and South Africa. In 2021 the school obtained EQUIS accreditation, joining a very narrow global elite of certified institutions.

The historic Villa Guastavillani campus, acquired and restored over the years, is today the distinctive symbol of the school's identity, combining historical heritage with a contemporary vision of management education.
