Schools of Advanced Studies

Special Statute Higher Schools are autonomous academic institutions that represent excellence in higher education and research in Italy.

They mainly offer PhD programs, pre-doctoral activities, and advanced training pathways for students selected through merit-based admission procedures. A distinctive feature is their residential system, which provides accommodation and dedicated services at no additional cost.

These institutions award diploma qualifications and collaborate with universities in delivering master’s degree programs. Like all Italian universities, they are subject to accreditation and evaluation processes conducted by ANVUR.

Currently, there are eight Special Statute Higher Schools in Italy, recognized as leading centers of academic and scientific excellence.
