History & Tradition · LUISS Guido Carli – Roma

From 1974 to Italy's management elite: LUISS and the training of the ruling class

LUISS Guido Carli was founded in 1974 on the initiative of Confindustria (Italy's employers' federation), with the aim of creating a school of management and political training for Italy's ruling class. The name 'Guido Carli' was added in honour of the Governor of the Bank of Italy and Confindustria president, one of the most influential figures in the post-war Italian economy.

From the outset, LUISS positioned itself as a more selective and professional alternative to the large state universities: limited enrolment, high fees and a merit scholarship system rapidly built a reputation for excellence that attracted Italy's most ambitious students.

In the 2000s, LUISS opened to the international public through the introduction of English-language programmes and double degree programmes with the leading European and American business schools. Its distinguished alumni include government ministers, prime ministers, bankers and senior executives of Italy's leading financial institutions.
