Courses in Psychology

Psychology studies behaviour, mental processes and relationships, and its applications touch health, school, work, sport, justice and the community. Master's programmes in Psychology allow graduates in psychology and related disciplines to specialise in applied fields, acquiring professional skills that complement university education and respond to a fast-growing demand for wellbeing.

The programmes include clinical and health psychology, neuropsychology, developmental and educational psychology, work and organisational psychology, sport psychology, legal and forensic psychology, community psychology, emergency psychology, school psychology, psychodiagnostics and assessment, counselling, positive psychology and mindfulness-based interventions. Lessons combine theory, cases, experiential workshops, supervision and internships.

A master's in Psychology lets you develop skills in assessment, interviewing, intervention and designing prevention and wellbeing promotion programmes, as well as methodological and ethical knowledge. You learn to work in teams, respect professional ethics and communicate effectively with individuals, families, schools and organisations.

Professional prospects depend on the chosen specialisation and include psychologist in health and social services, school psychologist, work and organisational psychologist, human resources expert, sport consultant, expert in legal and forensic fields, trainer, researcher and worker in community services. Practising as a psychologist requires a master's degree, an internship, the State exam and registration in the professional register, while psychotherapy requires a specific specialisation; master's programmes do not replace these requirements.

Ever greater attention to psychological wellbeing in schools, healthcare and the workplace is widening job opportunities for those with specialist training.

Many master's programmes include internships and supervision, an important step for developing practical experience and finding your way among the different areas of intervention.
