Curriculum

The programme is dedicated to the management of tourism businesses and destinations in a context of rapid technological and environmental change. The content covers the fundamentals of business management, marketing, regional economics and sustainable mobility, and extends to the use of innovative technologies and Big Data analysis applied to tourism. Particular attention is paid to sustainable tourism and to designing strategies for turning destinations into smart destinations, that is, territories able to use data and technology to improve the visitor experience and the quality of life of residents. Tourism is approached as a complex system in which economic, cultural, environmental and social interests coexist. Students learn to read tourist flows, to assess the impact of management decisions on the territory and to use data as a tool for making more informed and sustainable decisions.

Teaching is organised over two years with an approach that moves from theory to practice. The first year is devoted to the theoretical foundations of business, economics and mobility disciplines. The second year, instead, focuses on practical workshop activities, in which students work on real projects and cases related to destination development strategies. The programme is taught full time in English at the Brunico campus, and includes a compulsory internship of at least 150 hours at national and international companies, which allows students to immediately put the skills they have acquired to the test. Admission is limited, with small classes that encourage teamwork and interaction with faculty. The study environment is international, and the Brunico campus, in the heart of the Dolomites, offers a setting particularly well suited to observing at close quarters how an Alpine tourist destination works and to engaging with local operators and institutions.

The aim is to train specialists able to manage and innovate tour operators, hotel chains, trade fair organisations and destination management organisations. Graduates can work as managers of tourism businesses, destination marketing experts, tourism consultants, data analysts in the sector and sustainable tourism managers. The programme is therefore suited to those who want an international career in tourism and hospitality, with managerial, digital and sustainability-minded skills, and to those who intend to tackle the sector's challenges with up-to-date analytical tools and a solid knowledge of the economic and territorial context. The skills acquired can also be used in public destination-promotion bodies and consulting firms, where demand is growing for profiles able to combine managerial vision, mastery of digital tools and attention to the environmental effects of tourism activities.
