Master’s Degree in Geology and Geophysics

The Master's Degree in Geology and Geophysics is offered by the University of Catania, Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. The programme is structured over two years, with a common scientific basis in the first year and customisation in the second. It includes compulsory and optional courses, with laboratories, fieldwork and data analysis; several orientations are recommended. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years, full-time and in person in Catania. The contribution indicated is €156 per year.

The aim is to train geologists and geophysicists able to integrate the scientific method with advanced techniques of data collection and analysis, with attention to land management and the prevention of natural hazards. Career opportunities include research, land management, environmental monitoring and technical consulting. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
