Master in Radiation Protection – MARA

The second-level Master in Radiation Protection (MARA) is offered by the Department of Engineering of the University of Basilicata. The programme covers the physical, biological, regulatory and technical aspects of radiation protection, with compulsory laboratory activities, seminars and a qualifying internship. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The master lasts one year, is worth 60 credits and is full-time, in a blended format: in-person lessons in Potenza and online on Google Meet. The language is Italian. Minimum compulsory attendance is 80% of the activities and the final exam is the defence of a technical-scientific thesis.

The aim is to train specialists able to assess and manage ionising radiation risks in accordance with current regulations, with skills applicable in healthcare, industry and the environment. The qualification gives access to the ministerial exam for registration on the national register of radiation protection experts. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
