Graduates in classes L-4 (Industrial Design), L-8 (Information Engineering) and L-9 (Industrial Engineering), AFAM diploma holders in Design and graduates in L-17 (Architecture) with at least 36 credits in specific sectors may apply. Foreign qualifications in design, architecture or engineering are assessed by the Programme Board. A B2-level English certificate is required, with minimum scores recognised by the university.

Selection takes place through a ranking and an individual assessment. The programme lasts two years and is held in person in Milan.

Curriculum

The master's degree in Design & Engineering trains designers able to combine design culture and engineering skills in the creation of industrial products. The areas covered include materials for design, design theory and practice, mechanical design, virtual design, materials selection, production processes and sustainability in its environmental, social and economic dimensions. The idea is to accompany the product from conception to engineering, taking into account function, quality, costs and impact. The resulting profile is a hybrid one: the product designer must be able to talk with those who deal with aesthetics and use, but also with those who deal with technical feasibility and production. The programme works on this meeting point, training students to assess an idea both for its formal quality and for its feasibility, costs, life cycle and environmental impact.

The programme lasts two years and is held in person in Milan. The first year is devoted to harmonising knowledge between design and engineering students and to theoretical foundations; the second year offers advanced courses and the development of an executive project. A compulsory internship in companies or academic research facilities is provided, and teaching alternates theory and practical workshops. The language is inferred from the B2 English certification requirement. Access is open to graduates in classes L-4, L-8 and L-9, to AFAM diploma holders in design and to L-17 graduates with at least 36 credits in specific sectors, and selection is based on a ranking and an individual assessment. Sustainability is addressed in its different dimensions, environmental, social and economic, and becomes a design criterion throughout the programme, from the choice of materials to the definition of production processes. Students learn to compare design alternatives and to justify their choices with data and arguments, a skill that companies now require of designers.

The aim is to train professionals for the furniture, automotive, consumer electronics, biomedical device, prototyping and innovation consulting sectors. The qualification makes it possible to continue with a doctorate or second-level master programmes. The page does not state the credits, the hours, the number of places, the dates, the titles of the individual courses or the cost, which is not made public. The programme is suited to those who wish to work in multidisciplinary teams and to link design creativity and technical rigour. The page refers to an advanced level of English, consistent with an international teaching environment, in which students often work in groups made up of people from different backgrounds. The experience of shared projects, with periodic reviews and discussion with lecturers, prepares students for the way work is organised in the technical offices, research centres and design studios of industry.
