Admissions

A bachelor's degree (first-level degree) or an equivalent qualification is required for admission, preferably in the field of engineering; the specific requirements, selection criteria, deadlines and required level of English are set by the university in its annual call for applications, which should be read carefully before submitting an application. The tuition fee is €1,200 per year, VAT exempt, for a total of approximately €2,400 over the whole two years.

For the double-degree tracks, additional conditions set with the partner universities may apply. The page indicates 28 September 2026 as the start date. A good knowledge of English is essential, as it is the language of the entire programme.

Curriculum

The programme trains industrial mechanical engineers able to work in a wide range of fields and on interdisciplinary projects, combining mechanical and digital engineering skills with knowledge of management and logistics. The programme makes it possible to explore in depth the design and analysis of mechanical systems, production and logistics management, automation, research and development, and operations and quality management, within the framework of the digital transformation of industry. The five tracks allow students to explore different areas, from simulation-assisted design to digital manufacturing, from the management of logistics systems to smart and sustainable production, always with a strong link between technology and organisation.

Teaching is organised over two years, full time and in English, at the Bolzano campus. After a common foundation, students choose between five specialist tracks: Computational Mechanical Design, Digital Manufacturing and Automation, Digital Manufacturing and Management, Logistics and Production, and Smart and Sustainable Production. The last two offer a double degree, respectively with the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg in Germany and with TU Graz in Austria, an opportunity that strengthens the international dimension of the programme. Teaching alternates theoretical lectures, labs and projects, with the use of advanced facilities such as the Smart Mini Factory and the Prototyping Lab, and is delivered by both academic faculty and professionals from industry. During their studies it is also possible to work at local companies, which makes it possible to link the education to the real needs of manufacturing firms. Lab activities allow students to experiment with production processes, robotics and automation in environments that reproduce industrial settings, developing teamwork skills and the ability to manage complex projects in collaboration with companies.

The aim is to prepare professionals able to design, manage and innovate production and mechanical systems in increasingly digital and sustainable industrial contexts. Career opportunities include the design and analysis of mechanical systems, production and logistics management, research and development, automation, and operations and quality management. The programme is suited to graduates in mechanical, industrial or management engineering who wish to specialise in a sector where technical skills and the ability to coordinate complex processes are in great demand, both in local companies and in international organisations. The possibility of obtaining a double degree, together with the international dimension of the programme, supports professional mobility and prepares students to work in manufacturing companies, engineering firms and research centres in Italy and abroad.
