Master’s Degree in Data Science

The Master's Degree in Data Science is offered by the University of Catania, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, with the collaboration of three departments. It has two curricula, one focused on data analysis and one oriented towards applications, and integrates mathematical, computer science, engineering and economic skills. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years and is delivered in person in Catania, entirely in English. The entry gives October 2026 as the start date, so the course may already have started.

The aim is to train professionals able to hold strategic roles in business management, corporate competitiveness and the evaluation of public policies. Career opportunities include data scientist, statistician, data analyst, data engineer, systems analyst and data management specialist, in the public and private sectors. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
