Master’s Degree in Biotechnology for Food Quality and Safety

The Master's Degree in Biotechnology for Food Quality and Safety is offered by the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Sciences (Di.S.S.P.A.) of the University of Bari Aldo Moro. The main disciplines are bioinformatics, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology and food certification, with laboratories, company visits and tutoring. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years and is taught full-time in person in Bari. But English at B1 level is required for access. Training internships and career guidance through the university's placement service are provided.

The aim is to train professionals who apply the scientific method in biotechnology, with a focus on food quality and safety, for positions of responsibility in industry and research. The career opportunities are agri-food risk analyst, food safety consultant, food production director, food technologist, quality manager and nutrition researcher. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience.
