Overview
The Master's Degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan is a two-year programme, in person and in English, at the Cremona campus. With a multidisciplinary approach it joins engineering and agricultural sciences: in the first semester it aligns the different backgrounds, then addresses automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, big data and innovative materials, through to industrial management, the supply chain, environmental sustainability, drones, renewable energy and entrepreneurship.
It trains engineers able to design and manage autonomous tractors, drones and robotic systems, and to ensure the traceability of agro-industrial products. The qualification gives access to regulated professions and to doctoral study, with career opportunities in companies, research and public administration.
Key features
Admissions
For admission, a degree is required preferably in classes L-7, L-8, L-9 or L-25 (engineering and agricultural sciences), or at least 180 credits with certain credits in scientific and engineering fields. A certificate of English language proficiency is mandatory. Foreign qualifications must be comparable and are assessed by the programme Board, while a committee examines each application on the basis of academic merit and scientific preparation.
The page does not give the enrolment cost, the application deadlines, the number of places available or the start date, so the official call for applications of the Polytechnic University of Milan must be consulted. The programme lasts two years and is held in person at the Cremona campus.
Curriculum
The master's degree in Agricultural Engineering joins engineering and agricultural sciences to train professionals in precision agriculture and agro-industrial technologies. The first semester is devoted to aligning the students' different educational backgrounds; in the following semesters automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, big data and innovative materials are addressed; the final part focuses on industrial management, the production supply chain, environmental sustainability, drones, renewable energy and entrepreneurship. The approach is multidisciplinary and aims to develop practical skills in advanced technologies. Agriculture is a sector undergoing deep transformation, in which digitalisation, robotics and data analysis make it possible to increase productivity while reducing environmental impact, and the programme prepares engineers able to design machines and systems for precision agriculture, from autonomous driving to the monitoring of crops and livestock with sensor networks.
The programme lasts two years, is held in person at the Cremona campus and is entirely in English. Admission requires a degree preferably in classes L-7, L-8, L-9 or L-25, or at least 180 credits with specific credits in scientific and engineering fields, together with a certificate of English language proficiency. Foreign qualifications must be comparable and are assessed by the programme Board, while a committee examines each application on the basis of academic merit and scientific preparation. The page does not state the total credits, the titles of individual courses, the teaching hours, the cost, the number of places or the dates. The first semester, devoted to alignment, is an important aspect because the programme welcomes students with different backgrounds, from engineering to agricultural sciences, and makes it possible to build a common foundation before tackling advanced technologies; in the following semesters the themes of sustainability, renewable energy and supply chain management complete the profile.
The aim is to train engineers able to design and manage advanced agricultural technologies, such as autonomous tractors, drones and robotic systems, to develop skills in big data and sensor systems for environmental and animal monitoring and to ensure the traceability of products and agro-industrial supply chains. The degree gives access to regulated professions, including civil and environmental engineer, information engineer, industrial engineer, agronomist and forestry specialist, and to doctoral study. Career opportunities include manufacturing companies, agricultural machinery design firms, research centres, environmental consulting and public administration. The Cremona campus, in an area with a strong agri-food vocation, offers a setting favourable to contact with companies and institutions in the sector, and the use of English encourages an international dimension; skills in product traceability, including those linked to technologies such as blockchain, respond to a growing demand for transparency along supply chains.
