Admissions

This is a master's degree: admission requires a bachelor's degree (first-level degree) or an equivalent qualification, with skills consistent with the engineering and computer science area. The assessment criteria, deadlines and documentation, including knowledge of the English language, are set by the university in its annual call for applications, which should be read carefully. The tuition fee is €1,200 per year, VAT exempt. Students can apply for scholarships and other services through the Office for the Right to Education of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. The programme is based at the NOI Techpark campus in Bolzano. Any additional costs related to university services are indicated by the university.

Curriculum

The programme stems from the meeting of information engineering, bioengineering and biomedical sciences, with the aim of applying the most advanced technologies to the sport and health sectors. The first part of the programme, worth 45 credits, provides targeted knowledge of computer engineering, bioengineering and biomedical sciences, so as to level out the skills of students with different backgrounds. The second part, worth 52 credits, goes deeper into embedded systems and cognitive robotics, with the option to choose elective courses worth up to 12 credits and to take part in experimental labs and experiential learning activities. A distinctive feature is the choice to start with a phase of knowledge alignment: this makes it possible to welcome students with different degrees, for example in computer engineering, electronics or disciplines close to biomedical sciences, and to bring them to a common level before tackling the more specialised topics.

Teaching combines theory and practice: courses rely on well-equipped labs, the use of state-of-the-art software and the involvement of local companies, while experiential activities and the development of soft skills accompany students throughout the two years. The overall programme corresponds to 117 ECTS credits, including the 20-credit final thesis, devoted to research and the writing of a master's thesis that can be carried out at the university or in local and international companies. The programme is taught in English, full time, and takes place in Bolzano at the NOI Techpark, an environment where research and businesses work in close contact. The presence of companies and labs within the NOI Techpark fosters direct contact with applied research and market needs, while the elective courses allow students to steer their study plan towards robotics, embedded systems or biomedical applications.

The aim is to train engineers able to design intelligent embedded systems and cognitive robots, integrating sensors, actuators and artificial intelligence to meet real needs in healthcare, rehabilitation and sport. Career opportunities include working as an engineer or consultant in companies operating in healthcare, rehabilitation, fitness and sport, as well as a research career in public and private institutions. The degree also gives access to the state exam for the profession of Information Engineer. The programme is designed for graduates interested in developing wearable technologies, monitoring systems and robotic solutions that improve performance, prevention and people's quality of life. Students develop the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with specialists in healthcare and sport, an essential requirement in a sector where innovation arises from the meeting of different skills.
