Master’s Degree in Experimental and Applied Biology

The Master's Degree in Experimental and Applied Biology is offered by the University of Catania, Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. The programme offers three curricula: Health Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology and Nutrition Biology. Teaching includes lectures, practical laboratories and research activities on the structure and function of biological systems at the molecular and cellular level. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years and is delivered in person in Catania. The language is Italian. Access is not limited.

The aim is to train biologists with skills in research, innovation and recognised professionalism, with access to specialisations, doctorates, second-level masters and the State examination for the register of biologists. Career opportunities include the health and nutrition sector, university research, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and registration with the register of biologists (section A). Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
