Master’s Degree in Philology, Literatures and History of Antiquity

The Master's Degree in Philology, Literatures and History of Antiquity is offered by the Department of Humanistic Research and Innovation of the University of Bari Aldo Moro. It includes philology, Greek and Latin languages and literatures, ancient and late antique history, with lectures, seminars, compulsory language laboratories and elective training activities. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years and is taught full-time in person in Bari. The language is Italian. Curricular internships and placements are provided.

The aim is to develop expertise in philological methods and an in-depth knowledge of classical literatures, with teaching and communication skills and learning autonomy. The career opportunities indicated are teaching, research, management of archives and libraries, cultural outreach and enhancement of cultural heritage. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
