Master’s Degree in History and Society

The Master's Degree in History and Society is offered by the University of Cagliari. The programme has four pathways by historical period that combine historical disciplines with social and methodological subjects. It includes lectures, thematic seminars, language workshops, digital humanities workshops, practical sessions, internships and a research thesis. The pathway is aimed at those who wish to deepen and update their skills, with a structure that links theoretical reflection to concrete applications in the relevant professional context.

The course lasts two years and is full-time in Cagliari. The language is Italian. Erasmus international mobility opportunities are included.

The aim is to train specialists in historical research, able to analyse complex historical phenomena and to develop research autonomy and critical analysis. Career opportunities include academic research, teaching, the management of archives and libraries, cultural institutions, foundations and publishing, with access to doctoral studies. Upon completion, those who successfully finish the pathway obtain the qualification provided and can use the skills acquired in their own professional field or in further study. Concrete prospects nevertheless depend on each participant's starting profile and experience. Those who work should carefully assess the commitment required, in terms of weekly hours and attendance, to understand whether the programme is compatible with other professional or personal commitments.
